The Spinal Cord Injury Program is an acute rehabilitation program providing comprehensive, coordinated and integrated services to patients who present with spinal cord injury. Injuries may be the result of motor vehicle accidents, falls, spinal stenosis or disease. The purpose of the Spinal Cord Program is to restore each individual to the highest level of independent functioning within the limits imposed by injury to the spinal cord.

Our clinical program focuses on:

  • Medical management
  • Interdisciplinary intervention
  • Early involvement of family and friends
  • Strengthening and conditioning
  • Early comprehensive discharge planning
  • Restoration or adaptation of individual functional skills
  • Integration of these skills into effective routines for daily living
  • Development of coping strategies for patients and their families
  • Community re-integration

Admission criteria:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A medical condition requiring an intensive rehabilitation program
  • The ability to participate in at least three hours of therapy a day
  • A support system committed to participating in decision making conferences and education
  • An identified discharge plan
